Choeng Mon sits at the northeast tip of Koh Samui. It is a short drive from the airport and from Chaweng, and it is removed from the noise of both. The bay curves behind a wooded headland, so the water is naturally sheltered. Most of the resorts are boutique or luxury, beach access is mostly through the properties on the shore, and the crowd is couples and families rather than anyone hunting a bar strip.
If I were landing late with small children, this is the bay I would look at first. I have not stayed in the villas. The case for it is the shelter, the distance to the airport, and the lack of a 2 am strip.
The short version
- Best for: couples, families wanting calm water, upscale travellers who want quiet close to Chaweng
- Skip if: you want budget accommodation, a long beach, or easy public beach access
- Beach: calm, sheltered cove, good swimming, mostly accessed via resort properties
- From airport: ~15 min by taxi (฿200–250)
- From Chaweng: 15 min by scooter or taxi
- Dining: primarily resort restaurants; limited standalone options
The beach
Choeng Mon Beach is short. The bay runs roughly 600 metres, and the curve of the headland keeps the water calm in most conditions. That makes it good for swimming, paddleboarding, and kayaking, and it does not pick up the swells that hit Chaweng and Lamai between October and December.

In practice the beach is largely private. Several resorts have their own sections of sand. There is public access, but parking is limited and day visitors are rare. That is part of the appeal: it rarely feels crowded. It is not a beach you jog for kilometres. Six hundred metres is a stroll.
The resorts
SALA Samui Choengmon Beach Resort is the most prominent property, a pool-villa resort where most rooms have private pools. Cape Fahn Hotel occupies a small private island at the far end of the bay, connected by a causeway. Its 24 pool villas face open water on three sides. Both are high-end and priced that way. A handful of smaller boutique properties sit at more moderate rates. The hotel-by-hotel distances, checked 27 October 2026, are in Choeng Mon beach hotels. Absolute Sanctuary is the wellness hotel on the hill in this area, not a room on the sand. The temple that listing puts 1.84 km away is Wat Plai Laem.
Dining is mostly resort restaurants. There are one or two standalone places on the access road. If you are here for a week, you will want trips to Bophut or Chaweng for a proper choice of dinner.
For families
Choeng Mon is one of the practical family options on the island. The sheltered water suits children, the area is compact, and there is no party to navigate. Chaweng is close enough for a day. See Koh Samui with kids for what works from this part of the island, and best beaches in Koh Samui for how the swimming compares with other bays.
Getting around
Chaweng is about 15 minutes by scooter or taxi. The songthaew network does not cover Choeng Mon as reliably as the main north-coast route, so day trips usually mean a taxi or a scooter. Bophut is around 20 minutes west. See getting around Koh Samui for routes and current prices.
Getting here
From Samui Airport: taxi or songthaew, roughly 15 minutes. From the main west-coast piers at Nathon, allow 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. Choeng Mon is not on the main ring road, so it is a short detour from the north-coast route.
Staying here
Budget accommodation does not exist in Choeng Mon. The entry point is mid-range boutique. Most properties are upper-mid to luxury. Browse /hotels/ for current rates. The pin-by-pin comparison is Choeng Mon beach hotels. If the prices are outside the budget, Bophut offers similar calm at more varied rates, and Maenam is the most affordable north-coast option.
